Months of the Year in Cursive
Dates are where cursive gets used most in everyday life — on forms, cards and the top of a page — so the twelve month names are worth learning as whole words. Between them they use eight different capitals, four of which do not connect to the letter after them, and almost every kind of lowercase join. Each month is written out below with a short note on what to watch, followed by practice sheets that trace all twelve, six months to a page.
Written out, one by one
January
Capital J drops below the line and connects. The a-n-u run in the middle is three midline letters in a row — keep them the same height.
February
Capital F takes a crossbar. The b is a bridge letter, so the r after it starts from the midline.
March
Capital M connects. Ends with c-h: the c's tail rises straight into the tall loop of h.
April
Capital A connects. p drops a straight stem below the line; the l after i is a tall loop.
May
Short and useful for warming up: capital M, then a, then a y with its descender loop.
June
Capital J again, then u-n-e — an undercurve, an overcurve and a loop, one after the other.
July
Same J. The l is tall and the y loops below, so the word spans all three zones.
September
Capital S does not connect. Two e's, a p and a b (a bridge letter before the e) make this a good all-round test.
October
Capital O does not connect. The c-t-o-b-e-r run has a bridge (o) and a tall loop (b) back to back.
November
Capital N connects. The v is a bridge letter — the e after it starts at the midline.
December
Capital D does not connect. Then e-c-e-m-b-e-r, with the b's bridge into e near the end.

Questions
Which months start with a capital that does not connect in cursive?
February (F), September (S), October (O) and December (D). After those four capitals you lift the pen and begin the lowercase letters separately. The other eight months — January, March, April, May, June, July, August and November — start with a capital that joins straight into the next letter.
How are month abbreviations written in cursive?
The same way, just shorter: Jan., Feb., Sept. and so on, with the capital and a period. Because they are so short, abbreviations are a good way to drill the capitals on their own without writing the full word each time.
Should I learn the months before the days of the week?
Learn the days first — they are shorter and use fewer capitals. The months then add five capitals the days never use — J, A, O, N and D — and longer runs of lowercase joins, which is the natural next step.
