Cursive Numbers 0–9
Numerals are not joined like letters, but they are written with the same slant and the same rounded strokes, at about the height of a capital. Here are all ten on ruled lines, with a practice sheet.
Numbers share a page with the letters on the printable alphabet chart, and they are where cursive gets used most in real life: dates. Once the ten shapes are steady, write them beside the days of the week and the months of the year.
How to write each number
0
One oval, drawn counter-clockwise from the top, the same shape as a capital O but slightly narrower.

A single slanted stroke from the top line down to the baseline. Keep it the same slant as the letters.

A small curve over the top, a diagonal down to the baseline, then a short stroke along the baseline to the right.

Two curves stacked, both opening to the left, drawn in one stroke from the top.

A short slant down, a level stroke to the right, then a taller stroke straight down through it. Two strokes.

A short stroke down from the top, a rounded bowl below it, then the top bar added last, left to right.

A curve down from the top that rounds into a closed loop at the bottom, drawn counter-clockwise in one stroke.

A level stroke along the top line, then a slant down to the baseline. Some styles add a short crossbar.

One continuous stroke: start at the top, sweep down to the left, cross, loop at the bottom and return to the top.

A small closed loop at the top, then a straight or slightly curved stroke down to the baseline.

Number questions
Are numbers written in cursive?
Not in the joined sense. Handwriting programs teach numerals as separate characters — each one is written on its own and never connected to the next. "Cursive numbers" means numerals written with the same slant, rhythm and rounded strokes as the surrounding cursive letters, so a date or an address looks like it belongs on the page.
Do cursive numbers connect to each other?
No. 2026 is written as four separate numerals, evenly spaced. Only letters join in cursive; joining numerals makes them ambiguous, which is the last thing you want on a cheque or a form.
How tall should numbers be in cursive writing?
The same height as the capital letters — from the baseline up to the top line. Unlike letters, numerals have no ascenders or descenders in most styles, so a row of numbers sits in that one band, give or take the slight overshoot every rounded shape needs to look level.
Which numbers are easy to confuse in handwriting?
1 and 7, 4 and 9, and 3 and 8 are the usual pairs. Give 7 a clear level top, close the loop of 9, and keep the two curves of 3 open on the left so it cannot become an 8.
